Whether you are expecting, plan to adopt your first child or are already a parent, working while raising a family can be complicated. But Freddie Mac’s suite of benefits tailored to working parents can help you prioritize your family and better manage your work-life balance.

Among its 10 Business Resource Groups (BRGs) — which allow employees to connect with others who share a cultural background, lifestyle or interest — Freddie Mac has a Working Parents BRG that supports employees and their families as they balance their career and parenthood.

“A working parent’s journey is one that is usually packed with excitement and much reward, with no two days being alike,” said Theresa Dumais, Freddie Mac’s vice president of government and industry relations and the executive sponsor of the Working Parents BRG. “That journey can also feel overwhelming at times. Having a community of fellow working parents who share similar struggles and triumphs is invaluable.”

Additional benefits for Freddie Mac’s working parents include:

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Fertility Drug Benefit

Under specific Freddie Mac healthcare plans, employees can receive a lifetime maximum of $30,000 toward fertility and IVF benefits and $15,000, per year, toward infertility prescription drugs.

Adoption/Surrogacy Reimbursement Program

Freddie Mac provides up to $30,000 in financial assistance if you adopt a child. Upon completion of the legal process, Freddie Mac employees may apply for reimbursement for eligible expenses, such as adoption agency fees, court and legal fees and more. Likewise, we provide up to $30,000 in financial assistance for eligible surrogacy-related expenses such as legal and medical expenses incurred by the surrogate.

“For anyone at Freddie Mac that is considering adopting a child, I would encourage them to explore it,” said Andy Freeman, a cash window senior manager in Freddie Mac’s Investments and Capital Markets division. “Freddie Mac’s adoption reimbursement goes a very long way toward helping employees and reduces the financial toll of going through the adoption process.”

Parental Leave

Employees can take up to 12 weeks of paid leave to support your spouse or domestic partner who gave birth, to bond with your new child or to care for your newly adopted child. Birthmothers are also eligible for six to eight weeks of short-term disability, totaling 18-20 weeks of paid leave.

Family Medical Leave

Eligible employees can use up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave upon the occurrence of a serious health condition, to care for an eligible family member or due to a qualifying event.

Caregiving Leave

Employees may take a maximum of 10 days of leave per calendar year to care for a sick family member, including children.

New Moms Program

Employees who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or who are returning to work following the birth of their child are eligible for Freddie Mac’s New Moms Program. Through the New Moms Program, we provide support to our female employees who want to work and maintain a successful breastfeeding relationship with their children by offering access to maternal and pediatric experts, and on-site mothers rooms and breast pumps.

In addition, Freddie Mac offers several additional on-site benefits, including a wellness center for preventive health checks and immunizations such as flu shots, dry cleaning services, and cafeterias and cafes.

"Sometimes, as a parent, you're so focused on getting your kids where they need to be that you don't stop to take care of yourself," said Suzie Metts, a project management senior in the Single-Family acquisitions division. "The amenities here make that possible."

Back-Up Childcare

Freddie Mac provides eligible employees subsidized access to center-based back-up childcare, as well as in-home back-up care for mildly ill children.

In addition, hybrid employees can choose up to four non-consecutive work weeks during the year to work offsite. The benefit is part of a suite of flexible work options employees can use to address business or personal matters.
