Meet Freddie Mac’s University Program: Our Recruitment Process and Timeline
At Freddie Mac, we begin recruitment for our summer internships and recent graduate positions each year during the fall and spring. By starting your career at Freddie Mac, you’ll be taking on challenging work that matters. From day one, you’ll gain confidence, see your ideas take shape and build a network of people who are invested in your success.
But before you can contribute to our mission of Making Home Possible, you’ll participate in our recruitment process. We recognize this can be a stressful time, but by knowing what to expect and how you can best prepare, you can have a great interview experience.
Step 1: Apply
When: Positions open in July, August and December.
What: If you are interested in launching your career at Freddie Mac, explore the many different positions and business areas available and apply to those that appeal to you.
Success Tip: There is no shortage of opportunities at Freddie Mac, so consider each one carefully. Because you are just beginning your career, it’s important to be open to all the roles available. At the same time, stay true to your passions and consider roles where you think your coursework, skills and experience can make an impact.
Step 2: Selected for First-Round Interview
When: August to September; January*
What: At this stage, you will meet a Freddie Mac Talent Advisor, who will lead you through the recruitment process. You will complete a pre-recorded, virtual interview for the position to which you are applying. This is a great time to share your story and let us get to know you.
Success Tip: Before your interview, be sure to research the company to learn more about their business model, company mission and goals, and any related, industry news or current events. For instance, at Freddie Mac our mission is Making Home Possible. By preparing in advance, you should have a good understanding of what this means and how you can play a role in helping us achieve it. Our company website and secondary mortgage industry publications are great sources of information. In addition, hiring leaders value candidates who can express specific interest in the position or business area they are applying for and articulate how it can benefit their career goals.
Step 3: Selected for Personal Interview
When: September to October; February*
What: At this stage, you will interview with the team to learn more about the position and showcase to them how your skillset matches up with the role.
Success Tip: Our leaders understand you are a student or new graduate and don’t have years of work experience yet. However, you should still come to the interview prepared to share any related coursework, projects or initiatives you’ve contributed to or led. Speaking to your past accomplishments and describing the skills you obtained by reaching goals or learning from failures allows us to get to know you better. These interviews are two-way conversations and provide time for you to ask questions about the team, their work and the responsibilities of the position, so be prepared by coming with a few questions of your own.
Step 4: Join Our Team
When: October to November; March*
What: At this stage, if you are a selected candidate, you will hear from a Talent Advisor with an offer to join the Freddie Mac team.
Success Tip: If you have any unanswered questions about the role or the organization, now is the time to ask your Talent Advisor. We are here to introduce you to Freddie Mac and to support you; there are no wrong questions.
Jumpstart your career at Freddie Mac, where you belong and can have a rewarding career Making Home Possible. Learn more about our university program and apply to an internship or full-time position today.
*Our university programs recruit during the fall and spring semesters. Most opportunities are filled during the fall, but we continue to recruit until all positions are filled.
